ABOUT US:
Benediction is a growing, young, Gospel-centred church of folks from across Hamilton, including about 30 amazing children and youth. We gather on Sundays in a beautiful old Anglican space and scatter into homes during the week as Faith Families. We began in 2017, and our vision is to BE the Church by practicing the way of Jesus in and for the city until it is in Hamilton as it is in heaven. We belong to the Associated Gospel Churches of Canada and Hamilton’s TrueCity Network.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
- 10 hours/week | Fall 2026 & Winter 2027 semesters | Unpaid
- You’ll serve preschoolers, elementary kids, and youth while receiving intentional mentoring from the Lead Pastor. Success in this role leads to a strong ministry reference and may open doors to future paid opportunities.
A TYPICAL MONTHLY RHYTHM:
- 2-3 Sunday mornings in KidSpace (preschool, 10–15 kids) during the service.
- 2-3 Sunday mornings in Kids Club (elementary Bible memorization, 5–10 kids) after the service.
- 1 mid-week youth event or planning meeting (max once/month)
- Remaining time for prep, planning meetings, communication, and mentoring
WHAT YOU’LL DO / WHAT YOU’LL GAIN
- Teach Bible lessons, lead games/crafts/songs, support Bible memorization, and practice group leadership with preschool and elementary kids.
- Help plan and lead creative monthly youth events and faith conversations with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Hang out with and learn from some really awesome, genuine, Christlike volunteer leaders.
- Meet regularly with the Lead Pastor for training, support, and spiritual formation.
- You’ll reflect deeply on your theology and philosophy of ministry in an urban context, and leave equipped with practical tools and experience for future church or parachurch ministry.
- You’ll also have access to dedicated workspace, kitchen, wifi, and ministry funds.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- A committed follower of Jesus who is above reproach in his/her relationships, fun, creative, collaborative, and flexible—someone kids and volunteers look forward to being with, and someone whom parents trust with their kids and youth.
- You’re organized, dependable, and a clear communicator.
- Previous children’s or youth experience is helpful but not required; all training provided.
- You have reliable transportation to downtown Hamilton.
- Willing to complete Plan to Protect® certification (including a Vulnerable Sector Check) and agree to our Code of Conduct and Statement of Faith.
