The Social Collective is a non-profit organization (NPO) whose mission is to develop and support community and social initiatives that address the needs of students and young adults aged 18 to 35 across Turtle Island/Canada. The Social Collective is seeking to recruit an Operations Director. The primary role of the Operations Director is to ensure effective and strategic supervision of all operations under the scope of the Social Collective. Reporting to the Managing Director, this role is crucial to ensure operational excellence, staff well-being, and the achievement of organizational goals. The person in this role will oversee our team of project managers, project officers, and support officers, ensuring a balanced and effective allocation of resources within a matrix structure.
The selected candidate must be available to start their role no later than October 7, 2024.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth coordination of all projects with a macro-level perspective, ensuring that initiatives progress according to the organization’s strategic plans
Supervise the entire operations team by coaching and supporting the professional development and well-being of each team member
Lead the recruitment of personnel under their supervision (i.e. project managers, project officers, and support officers), in collaboration with the administrative coordinator
Evaluate the contributions of those under their supervision
Collaborate with project managers and the logistics coordinator to ensure effective resource allocation and safeguard each employee’s well-being and work-life balance
Organize regular follow-ups with project managers to monitor project progress, identify obstacles, and adjust plans accordingly
Write grant proposals and ensure the follow-up and accountability for existing grants
Actively participate in budget and strategic planning to align operations with the long-term goals of the Social Collective
Establish, negotiate, and manage key partnerships to support the organization’s goals and projects
When needed, contribute to the deployment of the Social Collective activities with its various partners
Required Qualifications
A university degree in administration or another relevant field of study, combined with 5 years of project management experience and 2 to 3 years of experience in operations management and team supervision*
* 6 to 9 years of experience in a leadership role within an NPO (including managing teams of at least 10 employees) will be considered equivalent.
A valid driver’s license and are comfortable driving long distances

Proven leadership experience and a strong ability to motivate and lead a team
Ability to manage budgets with a solid understanding of financial and accounting principles within NPOs
Project management skills, with the ability to align team talents with project needs
Ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships
Flexibility and adaptability in a constantly evolving environment
Proficiency in technological tools (required) and knowledge of the Airtable platform (an asset)
Excellent knowledge* of French and English, both spoken and written
* Excellent knowledge means the ability to read large or complex documents, write documents of considerable length, revise text syntax, and communicate with nuance using vocabulary tailored to a specific field of expertise.
Working Conditions
Permanent, full-time position (35 hours per week)
Working hours from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with flexibility to work evenings and weekends, according to project needs
Hybrid work model, with occasional travel to downtown Montreal office, and regular travel (sometimes over several days) across Canada, according to project needs
Compensation and Benefits
Salary depends on the experience and skills of the selected candidate. The annual salary scale ranges from $78,000 to $98,000 (class 7)
