About the organization
Health Partners International of Canada (“HPIC” and the “Organization”) is a not-for-profit relief and development organization dedicated to improving access to medicine and improving health for vulnerable communities around the world. As the only charity licensed by Health Canada to handle donated medicines, HPIC contributes to health and well-being by providing donated essential medicines and supplies, responding to emergencies, and strengthening local health systems. We partner with a network of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and medical mission teams, with pharmaceutical and healthcare product companies, and with foreign and Canadian government departments.

About the position
The Manager, Communications & Volunteer Engagement enhances HPIC’s brand and impact with target audiences by leveraging print assets, social media, and digital platforms, and engaging and attracting volunteers. Responsibilities include developing, capturing, and implementing metrics to underpin HPIC’s marketing and communications strategies; developing content, stories, and testimonials that tell our story; monitoring and developing content for HPIC’s social media accounts; monitoring marketing trends and making recommendations for state-of-the-art marketing techniques; and coordinating the recruitment, orientation, engagement, retention, and recognition of volunteers.


Success in this position requires keen attention to detail, collaborating with team members, and aligning actions and decisions with HPIC’s mission and values. Crucially, you will be passionate about bringing health to children and families living in vulnerable communities. This position reports to the Director of Philanthropy & Communications.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

·       Collaborates effectively with team members across departments

·       Consistently arrives to work, appointments, and meetings on time

·       Writes clearly and informatively and edits work for spelling and grammar

·       Protects HPIC by keeping all business-related information confidential

·       Handles expected workload at required quality level (productivity)

·       Aligns interactions and decisions with HPIC mission and values

·       Complies with policies and standards, as amended from time to time

Content Creation, Monitoring, Posting

·       Writes, edits, and designs content for social media, and website, including blog (digital and video), aimed at enhancing HPIC’s online presence and brand

·       Creates print and digital assets, including semi-annual newsletter, donor proposals and cases for support, impact reports (print and video), campaign mailings, sponsorship, and event assets, and other stewardship and solicitation pieces

·       Works with area managers to gather information for targeting diverse audiences

·       Monitors social media accounts and posts content that promotes HPIC’s key programs

·       Captures and analyzes marketing and social media metrics, and makes recommendations to improve HPIC’s online presence

Development & Implementation

·       Leverages expertise to support development and implementation of multi-channel communications plan

·       Develops marketing and communications initiatives for review by Director, Philanthropy & Communications

·       Implements approved marketing and communications initiatives to enhance brand and

online presence, including followership on social media platforms

·       Develops content, stories, and testimonials that tell HPIC’s story and contribute to brand awareness and financial growth

·       Leverages expertise to develop and implement organization’s multi-channel communications plan

·       Ensures consistency in tone of voice and branding across communication channels

·       Stays current on marketing and communications best practices and technologies for non- profits, particularly in healthcare and global relief efforts sector

·       Oversees organizational events and on-site activities

Web Management

·       Manages and monitors HPIC website, and plans and implements upgrades

·       Creates fresh and inspirational content that speaks to HPIC’s work and impact

·       Troubleshoots issues, and ensures positive donor/public visitor experience

·       Serves as webmaster for English and French websites, updating content and visuals

·       Liaises with IT to flag, identify, and avoid security breaches

·       Ensures that website is compliant with applicable policies, laws, and regulations

External Communications

·       Seeks and helps to secure new opportunities and (media & government) partnerships that expand HPIC’s catchment and mission across Canada

·       Prepares key messages for campaigns and emergency response activities

·       Prepares remarks for spokespeople attending media, donor events, and other external activities as needed

·       Responds to media inquiries, in consultation with supervisor

·       Builds media kits and other media assets (press releases) as needed

Volunteer Program & Special Events

·       Designs structured approach to further engage current and attract new volunteers

·       Implements and updates program for recruitment, training, scheduling, retention, and recognition of volunteers

·       Monitors volunteer attendance, and maintains and analyzes data

·       Leads onsite experience for volunteer groups that attend Oakville facility to pack medical aid, typically once or twice per month, and possibly during evenings and weekends

·       Assists with special projects and other organizational events, as instructed

·       College or university degree in in marketing, communications, or journalism

·       At least three (3) years of experience in graphic design, video production, photography, and editing of video and images, ideally in healthcare or not-for-profit sector

·       Experience in fundraising preferred

·       Outstanding knowledge of web strategies and trending design applications

·       Excellent written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills

·       Proficient with MS Office and virtual meeting technology (Zoom, Teams)

·       Familiar with business use of social media platforms

·       Strong time management skills

·       Ability to switch tasks, respond to shifting priorities, and refocus after interruptions

·       Willingness to work outside of regular business hours, as needed

·       Proficiency in French an asset

·       Passion for writing flawless content

This position reports to HPIC’s Director of Philanthropy & Communications at the Oakville Distribution Centre, 2907 Portland Drive. A hybrid model can be considered, but in-office physical presence is required for this position.
