Job Title: Prodigal Sonz: Summer Program Facilitator
75 hours biweekly @ $21/hour
Tuesday & Saturday 2-10 PM
Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 12-8 PM
Reports to Executive Director

The Role
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Prodigal Sonz Program Facilitator contributes to the overall
success of LFY by bringing his expertise and experience to the organization, effectively.
• Serving as a mentor and role model, promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and resilience for
youth in the Prodigal Sonz Program
• Administering and delivering programs for youth at various locations (Ex. Youth Detention
Centres & Peoples Gymnasium etc.)
• Running evaluation sessions for youth basketball and physical fitness tracking
• Preparing and maintaining detailed records on youth progress based on the United Way grant
requirements and City of Hamilton – Enrichment Fund grant requirements
• Preparing post-event summaries and half-yearly and end-of-year program reports, and
• Taking on special projects as required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Attend Prodigal Sonz programming on Tuesday & Saturday evenings: 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.
• Assess youth skill levels to determine best-suited team placement: Entry Level, Development
Level or Rep/Elite Level
• Run evaluation sessions based on the evaluation schedule.
• Communicate effectively with youth to determine their needs and interests, as well as with all
other individuals they interact with at LFY.
• Research community agencies so youth in the programs can participate in community activities
and “give back” to the community, as well as introduce youth to volunteer opportunities and
complete community projects.
• Oversee and attend the annual New Year’s Eve Haven Basketball Tournament
(New Year’s Eve 8PM – 3AM), summer and winter retreat, and other Prodigal Sonz trips and

• Produce quarterly reports which will include Youth stories, photos, program updates, successes &
challenges, parents/teacher/probation support letters etc.
• Produce half-yearly and end-of-year program reports required according to grant guidelines.
• Ensure program information is accessible to appropriate individuals and concerned parties
without breaching confidentiality.
• Maintains an effective, fluid communication network for the programs and youth services.
• Ensure that all programs and activities are implemented according to relevant legislation, policies,
and procedures.
• Perform other related duties as required (ex. Attend fundraising events and adjust duties to best
suit the success of the event. Since the changing nature of the work and the present environment
in which we operate, responsibilities and duties may require adjustment to the job description).

Working Conditions
The Prodigal Sonz Program Facilitator will:
• Deliver programs in a variety of locations
• Transport, lift and carry equipment and supplies
• Be able to work in court, detention centres, and or crisis situation
• Spend some time sitting possibly for a number of hours, using office equipment including
• Strong knowledge in sports, recreation, and activities
• Knowledge of our city and a good understanding of directions
• Be involved in a number of high energy activities
• Need (for the safety of himself or a youth) the physical strength and stamina to be able to
effectively block or hold the aggressive youth(s) until a safe opportunity arrives (such as police
arrival, or the safe confinement of himself or herself as well as any LFY youth, emergency and or
hospital visit for incident reports during and or after work)
• Multitask, by managing a number of projects at one time with frequent interruptions
• Possess excellent organizational, time and stress management skills to complete the highest
priority tasks required at that time
• Remain patient with youth who can be demanding, challenging, emotionally absent and/or defiant
• Engage in conflict resolution or crisis management at times, which can be not only physically
demanding but also very emotionally demanding, and
• Be able to effectively “debrief” with the youth (as well as himself, peers, or other co-workers)
after an incident.
