PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
 

The Front Store Supervisor must have strong relational qualities and be able to train volunteers to effectively operate the Mission Thrift Store.  The Front Store Supervisor must reflect Christ in his/her behavior and be vibrant, passionate and have an entrepreneurial spirit.  They must understand the needs and wants of a thrift store customer and be able to motivate volunteers to deliver exceptional customer service.  The Front Store Supervisor must understand inventory control, pricing, separation of duties, delegation, motivation, marketing, advertising, and financial management.  They will work with the Store Manager to maximize production and sales floor success by modeling an excellent work ethic and promoting cleanliness in the store.  The Front Store Supervisor will build and maintain relationships with other local charities and community organizations that the Mission Thrift Store partners with.

The Front Store Supervisor will report to and assist the Store Manager. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
•        Work with Store Manager to oversee the day-to-day activities of the store

•        Communicate clearly and effectively with volunteers and staff

•        Support, train, and empower volunteers in their duties

•        Assist with recruiting and selecting well qualified staff/volunteers, in consultation with the Store Manager

•        Communicate regularly with volunteers, staff and customers to gain community support and to solicit input to improve the stores activities

•        Resolve any customers issues or concerns that may arise while ensuring customer satisfaction

•        Assist with inventory, set-up and maintenance of store displays

•        Assist Cashiers in maintaining cash floats

•        Work with Manager to make daily deposits

•        Monthly safe float counts

•        Schedule and manage Cashier and Customer Service Volunteers

•        Perform basic math functions to collect payments and make change

•        Operate registers, scanners, scales and credit card/debit card terminals

•        Handle exchanges and refunds in a quick, efficient manner

•        Collect payments and bag purchases for customers

•        Maintain accurate cash drawer

•        Updating social media platforms ie. Instagram and Facebook.

•        Maintain instore paper and digital signage

•        Customer service for loyalty rewards

•        Communicate with and foster positive relationships with suppliers and contractors.

•        Proficiency and interest in social media, specifically Instagram and Facebook

•        Open and Close the store

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

•        Occasionally lead daily devotions, prayer, and Bible reading with volunteers and customers

•        Participate proactively and creatively in the store’s ongoing fundraising efforts

•        Be able to communicate and celebrate the mission of the store

•        Other duties as assigned by Store Manager

•        Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends and holidays

QUALIFICATIONS
 

Abilities
The Front Store Supervisor must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

•        Knowledge of office policies and procedures

•        Experience with the non-profits/volunteer organizations

•        Knowledge of register operation, including cash, credit cards and register receipts

•        Previous experience in a retail store or as a cashier

 

Skills
The Front Store Supervisor must demonstrate the following skills:

•        Be organized and neat  

•        Analytical and problem-solving skills; be able to solve problems with good judgment and make decisions independently

•        Effective verbal, written and listening communications skills

•        Computer skills including the ability to operate various design, POS and online programs

•        Time management skills

•        Mathematical skills and the ability to handle transactions quickly and accurately

•        Positive, helpful attitude toward customers, including the ability to speak clearly and convey information accurately

•        Ability to process coupons, refunds, and gift cards.

•        Discretionary thinking to serve volunteers, customers and staff

The Front Store Supervisor must maintain strict confidentiality in performing his/her duties and must demonstrate the following personal attributes:

 Experience

·        At least 1 year of retail experience

·        Experience managing people: engagement, conflict management, crisis intervention, etc. preferred

·        Experience working in a not-for-profit organization preferred

·        retail experience with cashier and financial responsibilities preferred

·        Commercial driving experience is an asset

COLLABORATION

·        Working within a highly collaborative environment, with a team working toward a common goal.

·        May be required to collaborate (with travel) to other stores for training and development or other purposes.

AUTHORITY

The Front Store Supervisor is authorized to:

·        Spend up to the approved allocated budget limit for front store operating expenses within his/her department.

·        In consultation with the Store Manager, the hiring, promotion, transfer or dismissal of supervisory personnel below the level of his/ her immediate subordinates.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Front Store Supervisor is accountable to the Store Manager for:

·        The operation of their department in as far as is efficiencies, productivity in accordance with policies and mission of Mission Thrift Store Beamsville and BFM Foundation (Canada)

·        Ensuring that operating expenses for the Front Store do not exceed the approved budget for their department.

WORKING CONDITIONS

·        Combination of natural light and fluorescent/ LED lighting

·        Crouching, kneeling, stooping, bending for long periods of time – major job function

·        Walking or standing for long periods of time – major job function

·        Sitting for long periods of time at a computer – minor job function

·        Potential for conflict with people internally or externally that may be unforeseen

·        Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds

·        Bending and twisting and standing for long periods of time
