PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Retail Supervisor must have strong relational qualities and be able to train volunteers to effectively operate the Mission Thrift Store.  The Retail Supervisor must reflect Christ in his/her behavior and be vibrant, passionate and have an entrepreneurial spirit.  They must understand the needs and wants of a thrift store customer and be able to motivate volunteers to deliver exceptional customer service.  The Retail Supervisor must understand inventory control, pricing, separation of duties, delegation, motivation, marketing, advertising and financial management.  They will work with the Store Manager to maximize production and sales floor success by modeling an excellent work ethic and promoting cleanliness in the store.  The Retail Supervisor will build and maintain relationships with other local charities and community organizations that the Mission Thrift Store partners with. The Retail Supervisor will report to and assist the Store Manager. 

This is a part-time position for 20 hours per week. This position will be contract based, with possible opportunity to renew after an agreed upon time.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Work with Store Manager to oversee the day-to-day activities of the store

·        Communicate clearly and effectively with volunteers and staff

·        Monitor donated items and ensure they are ready to be sorted and priced daily

·        Ensure that sorting area is clean, clear and meets safety standards

·        Delegate and participate in the workload in the donations area among volunteers   

·        Recruit, interview and select well qualified staff/volunteers, in consultation with the Store Manager

·        Communicate regularly with volunteers, staff and customers to gain community support and to solicit input to improve the stores activities

·        Resolve any customers issues or concerns that may arise while ensuring customer satisfaction

·        Assist in training, guiding, developing, and motivating team members to reach and exceed their full potential

·        Assist with weekly, monthly, and semi-annual ordering of supplies

·        Oversee daily retail operations

·        Create attractive sales floor displays and make sure that our product is prominently displayed 

·        Opening and/or closing of store

·        Daily deposit sheets (Shared)

·        Night deposit (Shared)

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

 

·        Occasionally lead daily devotions, prayer, and Bible reading with volunteers 

·        Participate proactively and creatively in the store’s needs

·        Updating social media platforms ie. Instagram and Facebook

·        Other duties as assigned by Store Manager

·        Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends

·        Must be able to work on cash if necessary

 

 QUALIFICATIONS

 

Abilities

The Retail Supervisor must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

·        Knowledge of office policies and procedures

·        Experience with the non-profits/volunteer organizations

·        Knowledge of register operation, including cash, credit cards and register receipts

·        Previous experience in a retail store

 

Skills

The Retail Supervisor must demonstrate the following skills:

·        Be organized and neat  

·        Analytical and problem-solving skills; be able to solve problems with good judgment and make decisions independently

·        Effective verbal, written and listening communications skills

·        Computer skills including the ability to operate Excel, Word, and Email programs

·        Time management skills

·        Positive, helpful attitude toward customers, including the ability to speak clearly and convey information accurately

·        Proficiency and interest in social media, specifically Instagram and Facebook 

 

Personal Attributes

The Retail Supervisor must maintain strict confidentiality in performing his/her duties and must demonstrate the following personal attributes:

EXPERIENCE

·        At least 1 year of retail experience

·        POS experience preferred

·        Experience managing people: engagement, conflict management, crisis intervention, etc. preferred

·        Experience working in a not-for-profit organization preferred

·        retail warehousing or receiving preferred

 

COLLABORATION

·        Working within a highly collaborative environment, with a team working toward a common goal.

·        May be required to collaborate (with travel) to other stores for training and development or other purposes.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

·        Combination of natural light and fluorescent/ LED lighting

·        Crouching, kneeling, stooping, bending for long periods of time – major job function

·        Walking or standing for long periods of time – major job function

·        Potential for conflict with people internally or externally that may be unforeseen

·        Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds

·        Bending and twisting and standing for long periods of time
