The Redeemer Audio-Visual Department strives to make presentation and audio-visual technology an asset to Redeemer University, both in its pursuit of a scripturally directed university level education and in its Christian service to clients through the Campus Services department. We partner with our clients in their events by providing up to date, reliable and professional service for students, faculty, staff and external clients in all of their audio-visual and auditorium needs and in our various areas of service. The first thing to be said is that no experience or prior knowledge of audio-visual-lighting (AVL) equipment is required or expected; full training is provided. An enthusiasm to learn this skill set is what will be most beneficial in the hiring process. In this role, you will learn and use various skills including, audio mixing, theatrical lighting and how to set up and use presentation systems (projectors and TVs). Development of time management, administrative and interpersonal skills will happen on an informal basis. You will be exposed to a variety of audio, lighting and projection systems and will learn how to support the people that use them as well as how to use them proficiently yourself. Support for these systems is provided across the campus, including in our over 900 seat auditorium, all of the classrooms, the student recreation centre and various other spaces with a variety of systems. This position expects you to be willing and able to work up to ten hours per week on average, although hours do vary and there is some flexibility. Training and work starts as early in September as possible and continues through to the end of exams in April. Work includes:

  • Weekly chapel worship services including setup and rehearsal times
  • Monthly Rooted Worship Sunday evening services including setup and rehearsal times
  • Video conference support
  • Technical support of class lectures, in classrooms and in the auditorium
  • AVL support of external rental groups, in the auditorium and with any AV needs across campus
  • AVL support of events run by the Student Senate, normally in the student recreation centre
  • Regular inspection of classroom equipment to ensure it is in good working order
  • Developing and updating documentation
  • Other tasks as required from time to time

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 15 kg.
  • Working at heights is required. (Full training and safety equipment is provided.)
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends, with occasional Sunday work to support worship services.
  • Diligence in responding promptly to email or text messages is critical.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision once trained.
  • Good interpersonal skills required for dealing with a variety of clients.
  • Must be able to work in stressful situations.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace applications is beneficial.
  • Organizational skills required.
  • Must be able to follow routine verbal and written instructions.


  • Previous experience, training or knowledge is beneficial, but not required; full training is provided. There is a possibility of this position developing into a full time position for the following summer.
