Therapeutic Equine Association for the Disabled (TEAD)
We are looking for more volunteers to join our team! No previous experience is required and we will provide all necessary training.
Our Mission:
At TEAD our mission is to empower individuals with disabilities through the transformative power of equine-assisted therapy. We are dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where people can experience the physical, emotional, and psychological benefits of therapeutic riding/programming.
Role Summary:
Sidewalkers walk beside the rider and their horse during therapeutic riding lessons to provide physical and or emotional support to riders. Some of our riders at TEAD require more physical support than others. There are different levels of physical support that a volunteer can provide to a rider. The level of support is dependent on the ability of the rider and is always at the discretion and under the guidance of the instructor leading the riding lesson. All methods of support for therapeutic riding will be fully explained during volunteer training. Sidewalkers must also be comfortable with and aware of the potentially unpredictable nature of horses. Sidewalkers must be physically able to walk for 30-60 minutes increments, with small bouts of slow jogging occasionally included within that timeframe.
Please reach out with any questions to Volunteer@tead.on.ca! We look forward to hearing from you.
