Internship

Tri County Mennonite Homes

Nithview home is looking for a pastoral intern to join us in delivering faith based programming to the residents who call Nithview their home.

There are many opportunities to minister to the senior population, as well as some unique learning opportunities to best serve congregants who are living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. This is meaningful work and will really challenge you to find ways to connect with individuals on a deeper level.

What is needed:

Sunday afternoon 2xmonth – create and deliver a 30-45 minute worship service including a sermon, bible verses, prayer, and hymns.
Mid-week chapel service – similar to the Sunday service, this is another opportunity to stretch your ministry muscles and create a worship service.
Bible study – we have a small but dedicated group of seniors who love to engage in a study of scripture, this is an invitation to write bible studies that are meaningful to seniors with a lifetime of dedication to their church, the Bible and God.
One-to-one visits – Many of our residents no longer have a ‘home church’ that they attend, and they are longing for spiritual care and connection. This is an opportunity to sit with them and not only minister to them in their final years, but also to witness their faith journey to this point and share stories, prayers, and sometimes tears.
Palliative care – a difficult reality in long term care is that each person who resides here is palliative, this is often the last place they will call home before they return to Heaven. Learning to sit with people in their last days, offering prayer and vigils, is heavy but necessary work.

Nithview is a not-for-profit long term care facility. We are also a healthcare organization which would offer a placement student an opportunity to learn about and be involved in a healthcare Chaplaincy position. Needs and demands are different for each area of ministry and the chaplaincy in Long Term Care is a unique opportunity.

Supervisor: Adrienne Nicholson, Resident Life and Spiritual Care Coordinator – Adrienne is a spiritual care counsellor, chaplain and ordained minister. She is also a psychotherapist with a specialized focus in spirituality and aging. Adrienne is currently completing a doctorate in Practical Theology at McMaster Divinity College with a focus on spiritual care in long term care environments.
